Whatever your level of fitness you can enjoy the environs of Killarney National Park and it's surrounding mountains at your own pace. The nearby McGillycuddy Reeks provide the finest mountain walking, scrambling and climbing in Ireland. Guiding companies who operate locally include the Hidden Ireland Adventures and Kerry Climbing. Both provide hillwalking, scrambling and rock climbing guided days and half days.

Rent a bike and travel the many pathways of Killarney National Park. We are a stones throw from the newly constructed Deenagh Walk which links you to many famous attractions such as Ross Castle, Muckross House and Torc Waterfall to mention only a few. Our closest bike rental company, a 10 minute walk from Sika Lodge is O'Sullivan's Rent-a-bike.

With three 18-hole courses within one mile of Sika lodge, and a further three 9-hole courses within the same distance, you're spoilt for choice! Killarney Golf & Fishing Club's Killeen course is very much the father of them all. With Killarney's lakes and mountains providing an imposing backdrop Killeen was the host venue of the 2010 and 2011 Irish Open Championships. The challenging golf is matched by the spectacular views with the 10th being a firm favourite where you are playing virtually onto the lake.

Horse Riding
Killarney Riding Stables, a quarter mile from Sika Lodge provide one, two and three hour treks through Killarney National Park, availing of the magnificent views of Loch Léin along the way. Visit Killarney Riding Stables for more information.

Boat trips
The Killarney Day Tour is one of the most memorable days you will have in the Killarney area. Travelling by coach from Sika lodge to Kate Kearney's Cottage, you can travel through the world famous Gap of Dunloe by pony and trap. Upon arriving at Lord Brandon's Cottage you will board an open boat for a cruise along Killarney's lakes toward the historic Ross Castle. Visit the Killarney Day Tour website for more information. Should the weather decide to close in, Killarney's all-weather waterbus runs daily from Ross Castle pier.

Killarney and its environs have some of the best salmon and trout fishing in Ireland. With miles of rivers and a choice of lakes, you won't have to queue for time or space! Trolling for Salmon is popular as is Fly-fishing for Trout with wet flies and spinners. The River Laune flows west from Killarney Loch Léin. Enquire at O'Neills Fishing Tackle Shop, Plunkett Street, Killarney on the availability of day permits.

The annual Killarney Maxi Marathon takes place again on July 14th. This year 3 distances are open to competitors - 15 miles, 13.1 miles (half marathon) and 10k. visit Run Killarney for more details.

Adventure Racing
For the more energetic and adventurous, the Killarney Adventure Race, now in it's second year, takes place on October 6th. Starting at the famous Gap of Dunloe, the race takes competitors through the 'Gap' and into the Black Valley and continues on up to Molls Gap. From here the race turns back towards Killarney town, stopping along the way to kayak Killarney's Middle Lake and climb Mangerton Mountain. There are 3 routes available for various levels of fitness.
